Christmas 2016
19th November 2016 – end Jan 2017
We are delighted to welcome some new artists this year including, Kate Heiss printmaker, Rachel Thomas painter and Emma Williams ceramicist whose work is shown alongside gallery regulars and extended ranges of prints, ceramics and jewellery.
Kate Heiss
Kate studied at the Royal College of Art graduating with an MA in textile design in 1997. She then worked as a textile designer across a wide range of fashion brands before setting up her own printmaking studio in 2011. She is a contemporary printmaker who is inspired by her love of nature, especially the flowers and birds of the local landscapes of Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. Her small limited edition prints are dynamic, bold and illustrative in vibrant fresh colours. All of Kate’s work is produced in her studios in Ashwell, Herts and Thornham, Norfolk.
Rachel Thomas
Rachel studied textile design at Art colleges in Great Yarmouth and West Yorkshire, before moving to London for a couple of years and then onto Barbados. It was in Barbados that she started to paint and exhibit on a regular basis, inspired by empty beaches and the thrill of climbing a new hill or mountain just to catch a glimpse of what’s on the other side. Rachel enjoys movement and pattern in nature, the changing seasons and light; she is influenced by new sights, sounds, tastes and colours. All of these experiences come alive in her paintings. Rachel currently works from her studio in the small village of Martham, Norfolk.
Emma Williams
Emma graduated in 1999 with a BA (Hons) in Decorative Arts from Nottingham Trent University. She makes low fired decorative ceramic bowls in her Nottingham studio from black and terracotta clays using the press-moulding process. She draws inspiration from observations of the natural world absorbed throughout her life – from childhood memories of seaside holidays spent beachcombing and rockpooling, to things she sees around her from day-to-day such as lichen growing on a stone wall.
